Top Entry Ball Valves

Top Entry Ball Valves provide direct access to internal components from the top of the valve body. Compare standard, cryogenic and metal-seated configurations by temperature, maintenance strategy and service severity.

Selection Guide

How to choose the right top entry ball valve design.

Top entry construction is selected where in-line access to the ball, seats and stem can reduce maintenance downtime or simplify work on critical piping systems.

Selection is mainly driven by whether the service needs standard top-entry isolation, cryogenic stem extension or metal seating for high-temperature or severe media conditions.

Choose by operating temperature, seat system, maintenance strategy and service conditions.

01 · Product Type

Top Entry Trunnion Ball Valve

A top entry trunnion ball valve combines fixed ball support with a top-opening body. It is selected where valve removal is difficult, line downtime is costly or maintenance strategy favors access to internal parts from above. Pressure class, body material and seat arrangement remain project-specific.

Best suited for: Critical process or pipeline lines where in-line access to the ball, seats and stem can reduce maintenance disruption.

When to choose it

Choose this design when in-line trim access is a stronger requirement than the simpler side-entry body arrangement.

02 · Product Type

Cryogenic Top Entry Ball Valve

A cryogenic top entry ball valve combines top-entry access with an extended stem or bonnet arrangement that keeps packing away from the coldest zone. Material toughness, cavity pressure relief, thermal contraction and low-temperature seat/seal behavior must be reviewed together.

Best suited for: LNG and cryogenic lines where top-entry maintenance is required together with extended-stem low-temperature design.

When to choose it

Choose this configuration when both cryogenic design and in-line maintenance are required.

03 · Product Type

Metal Seated Top Entry Ball Valve

A metal seated top entry ball valve uses hard-faced metal seats in a top-opening body. The design is useful when severe service makes soft seats unsuitable but maintenance strategy still favors in-line access. Coating system, leakage requirement, torque and thermal cycling must be defined in the RFQ.

Best suited for: Severe-service lines needing top-entry maintenance plus hard-faced metal seating for temperature, erosion or solids.

Choose this design when severe-service seating and in-line trim access are both mandatory.

Before You Request a Quote

Information to confirm before requesting a quote.

Select the valve configuration first. Final quotation still depends on the complete datasheet and project specifications.

FAQ

Top Entry Ball Valves Selection FAQ

How do I choose between the top entry ball valves shown on this page?

Start with the application and maintenance strategy. Selection is mainly driven by whether the service needs standard top-entry isolation, cryogenic stem extension or metal seating for high-temperature or severe media conditions. Then confirm size, pressure class, materials, seat design, end connection, actuation and project testing.

Are all top entry ball valves the same design?

No. The designs share the same valve family but differ in body construction, service condition or installation purpose. Each important configuration has its own technical product information.

What should I send for a top entry ball valve quotation?

Send valve size and quantity, pressure class, body/trim/seat materials, end connection, design pressure and temperature, media, operation, applicable standards, inspection, coating and documentation requirements.
